Milwaukee Wave News Release
Milwaukee, Wisconsin - December 14, 2007 -- Continental Properties Company, Inc. and The Milwaukee Wave are proud to announce the development of an innovative soccer training academy and multi-use facility as part of the Cudahy Station development in Cudahy, WI. This new project brings a winning combination of a Wal-Mart-anchored shopping center, a hotel and the proposed training academy.
The Premier Training Academy will provide a local, regional and national attraction for serious soccer players of all ages. Under the direction of Michael King, the Wave's all-team leading scorer, the academy's curriculum will be aimed at improving ball skills, technical development, fitness, mental strength and nutrition in a personalized, focused environment. League play is not being planned for the Premier Training Academy.
"Soccer coaches from all around the country have been clamoring for just this kind of facility," said Mike Lafferty, chief operating officer of the Milwaukee Wave. "More and more, futsal-type training is being seen as a great way to develop the quickness, ball skills and decision-making that all great soccer players have. We are excited about the opportunity to work with Continental Properties in bringing this kind of project to Cudahy."
Once completed in the summer of 2009, the Milwaukee Wave Premier Training Academy will feature over 60,000 square feet housing four futsal courts, and a full-size indoor field with artificial turf and dasherboards that would be the training home of the four-time world champion Milwaukee Wave. Futsal is a five-a-side indoor game favored in other parts of the world, played without walls on a rectangular court.
Steve Wagner, Senior Vice President of the Retail Group at Continental said, "We are excited to develop a 'destination' that has long been a part of Cudahy's long-range planning. The Milwaukee Wave will be an excellent partner to complete the development plan of Cudahy Station."
The Milwaukee Wave, established in 1984, are four-time league champions (1998, 2000, 2001 and 2005). The team plays at the U.S. Cellular Arena and is a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Continental Properties Company, Inc. is an owner, developer and manager of high-quality retail, multifamily and hospitality real estate across the United States. Founded in 1979 and still privately held, Continental is headquartered in suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin with offices in Ohio, Florida and Arizona.
The Cudahy Community Development Authority will hear a presentation on the project at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cudahy Municipal Building, 5050 S. Lake Drive.
