
Ironmen drop second straight; KiXX take home 10-8 win

NEWARK, NJ- The New Jersey Ironmen (5-3) returned home tonight to host the defending MISL champion Philadelphia KiXX (3-7), but a late score from KiXX midfielder Steve Wacker cost the Ironmen their second straight loss. The Ironmen will again play at Prudential Center this Friday when they host the Orlando Sharks.
Philadelphia opened the scoring when Tony Donatelli put in an unassisted tally at 9:26 of the first frame. Juninho then hit the equalizer for the Ironmen when he tapped in a Lazo Alavanja assist.
KiXX defender Ryan Heins then gave his club a 4-2 lead at 1:53 of the second quarter when he overtook a ball from New Jersey goalkeeper Tony Meola for the open net goal. The lead would be short-lived as Ironmen midfielder Osni Neto finished off a Goran Vasic assist for the first goal of his indoor career at the 5:17 mark.
New Jersey acquired their first advantage of the contest at 3:53 of the third period when forward Dan Antoniuk knocked in a perfect cross from midfielder Matt Maher. Alavanja stretched the score to 8-4 in favor of the Ironmen when he put an off-the-wall feed from forward Mauricio Salles into the back of the net.
Philadelphia closed the gap to 8-6 at 2:03 of the final stanza when player/coach Don D'Ambra set up a Pat Morris tally. Minutes later, KiXX midfielder Sandre Naumoski nailed the equalizer for his club to knot up the game at eight points each. Philadelphia midfielder Steve Wacker then nailed a left-footed knock at 9:55 to give the visitors a tight 10-8 edge. Goalkeeper Peter Pappas registered the assist. New Jersey made an attempt for the equalizer when Vasic put on the sixth attacker jersey, but it was not meant to be. The KiXX took the 10-8 victory to increase their overall record to 3-7 on the season.
After suffering a second consecutive loss at Prudential Center, the Ironmen fall to 5-3 on the year. The club hopes the snap the two-game skid next Friday when they host the Orlando Sharks. Kickoff is slated for 8:00 p.m.
