Connecticut Sun News Release
CONNECTICUT SUN QUOTES
Head Coach Mike Thibault On the win "I thought we came out, energy wise, was terrific. We rebounded well for a long time and we got our running game going. We played a lot of different combinations and it got a little ragged with different people playing together.
On the play of the starting lineups "It was a good win. Margo and Taj set a tempo in the paint, while Katie, Lindsay and Erin really pushed it at them [Chicago].
Katie Douglas On coming out strong to start the game "It was important to set the tone early in the game and play strong before we set off on this two game road trip. We just wanted to come out and execute."
On playing four games in six days "We haven't prepared for San Antonio. We didn't want to overlook Chicago. We just take it one game at a time. Tomorrow we'll start preparing for San Antonio."
Lindsay Whalen On the play of Erin Phillips "She's been playing great. Everyday she's becoming more comfortable with the team. It's hard to believe she is only 21. She's been great for the team."
On playing with a different starting line-up "Whatever the lineup is out there, we are going to play strong."
Erin Phillips On the team's strong start "That was the game plan (to come out strong). We wanted to get off to a really good start. I suppose we did a really good job at that."
On her first season in the WNBA "Well, it's been a hell of a rollercoaster ride. It's been fun, despite the delays. The four hours in Seattle weren't fun. A lot of (this experience) is just about reminding myself that I must be patient in my first year in the league."
CHICAGO SKY QUOTES
Head Coach Dave Cowens On the difference between the game in Chicago (84-79 CT win on 6/23) and tonight's game "Effort. They are a better team than we are it's like an A team against a B team. We have been a lot better effort wise coming out of the gate lately, but tonight we just didn't have it. They shot the ball pretty well and it seems like a lot of people have been shooting the ball well against us lately. We won the second half, but they start playing their bench players its no contest in terms of when they put their bench in, we always win those matchups. Their starting five is a little bit better than ours. We need to overachieve to win that is just the nature of an expansion team."
On the play of Katie Douglas "This game has turned into a three-point show and I'm not a big fan of that. It's obvious she is just going to pull up and shoot three's, she is a hell of a stroker and she has been working on her game and developing and tonight she was taking it to the basket, trying to draw fouls and all that stuff. They have some big presence down low, so I know she is getting open quite a bit, that's kind of what happens. It's nice for her to be able to play with people that get her open like that."
Jia Perkins On the difference between the game in Chicago (84-79 CT win on 6/23) and tonight's game "I thought we didn't get back on defense. They got so many transition points and that was the major difference, they were getting layups. We had a tough time of stopping them in the first half."
On the play of Katie Douglas and Taj McWilliams Franklin who combined for 36 points with Sales out "I think that is what they are going to have to do to pick it up when Sales is out. They are great players and that is what they are going to do for this team until she gets back."
Candice Dupree On the difference between the game in Chicago (84-79 CT win on 6/23) and tonight's game "We play a lot better at home than we do on the road. We just came out with a slow start, I don't know if it was because of the back-to-back, being our first back-to-back of the year."
On the way Chicago battled back with a 14-2 run in the 4th quarter "At halftime coach told us that we need to play with a little more effort, basketball requires that. We came out in the second half just playing hard and trying to get some defensive stops and when we did get stops, match their scoring."
