Defense Wins Matches (Literally):
Rio Grande Valley F.C is coming off a good week after defeating Monterey Bay F.C in Week 10 USL Championship action on the road, 1-2. The match winner was scored by defender Robert Coronado after entering the match early due to a sudden injury to Daniel Luis Saez. Coronado quickly made an impact on the pitch with distribution and attacking tries as he is traditionally an attacking defender. After a we ll executed triangle touch play near the box, Coronado snuck in and chipped a beautifully placed ball past the keeper, earning him Week 10 Goal of the Week hopes in the weekly poll.
The goal marked the fourth overall by a defender this season, each by a separate player. Coronado joined Luka Malesevic, Wahab Ackwei, Frank Nodarse on the score sheet for the back line this season.
Landon A Road Win?
San Diego poses a strong threat to the back line due to their firepower thus far in the season. They are responsible for 22 goals on 47 shots on target through Week 10 and are looking to unbalance the RGV F.C defense in front of their home crowd.
The side led by former USMNT star, Landon Donovan makes their second ever trip to Edinburg to try and ruin the home party. The last time they were in town they went home empty handed after a 1-0 loss at H-E-B Park. The lone goal was scored by another legend in football, 41 year old Vicente Sanchez who played a single season in the USL Championship before parting ways with RGV F.C and returning to Liga MX as a technical staff with Club Pachuca.
