November 10, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors won their third straight hockey game, 4-2 over the Idaho Steelheads, to move into second place on Sunday in front of 4,581 fans at Centennial Garden. The win snapped a four-game losing streak on home ice.
After a scoreless first period, Idaho scored in the opening minutes of the second frame, while on the power play. They won a face-off in the Condors zone back to the point, and the blast from Marty Flichel beat Kevin St. Pierre at 2:11. A couple minutes later, however, Christian Skoryna drew the game to 1-1 with a power play goal of his own. Late in the second period, Shawn Byram gave the Condors the lead with his second goal of the season, snapping home a wrist shot from the slot to make it 2-1.
In the third period, the power play yielded another tally. Jeff Goldie tipped home his fifth goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-1, lighting the lamp for the eventual game winner. Idaho made things interesting when Jeremy Mylymok netted his third goal of the season with less than four minutes remaining to pull within a goal. A power play in the last minute of regulation brought about the final goal, as Jamie Cooke banked a shot off the dasherboard, and it slid about 150 feet for a shorthanded empty net goal to make it 4-2 Condors.
Fans walked away with a free four-pack of donuts from Krispy Kreme, as the Condors won while scoring four goals. The post-game jersey auction of the team's Veteran's Day jerseys raised over $23,000 for the Petroleum Shrine Club. The amount raised is a Condors record, breaking the old mark of $20,525, set in April of 2001. In team history, over $120,000 has been raised for charity through jersey auctions.
The Condors return to action on Friday night, when they host the Fresno Falcons at 7:00pm. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors team photo, sponsored by Time Warner Cable, Real Rock 104.3 and the SBC Pacific Bell Yellow Pages. Bakersfield is 4-0 this season against the reigning champs.
