April 26, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
ANCHORAGE, AK. - The Bakersfield Condors had the Alaska Aces on the ropes but couldn't finish them off and lost Game 2 of the National Conference Semifinals, 3-2, Wednesday night, in front of 5,294 at Sullivan Arena. The win gives Alaska a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
At 10:56 of the first period, the Condors did what they failed to do in Game 1 and got on the scoreboard, when Josh Liebenow beat Derek Gustafson on a breakaway after a terrific outlet pass by Andrew Ianiero to put Bakersfield up, 1-0.
The Aces had four power play chances in the opening stanza and fired 16 shots on goal, but Jamie Hodson stopped them all to keep the Condors in front.
In the second period, Bakersfield had a number of power plays, including a full two minutes of five-on- three, but failed to beat Gustafson again.
Alaska evened things 1-1 with a shorthanded marker, as Patrick Wellar finished off a two-on-one pass from Kimbi Daniels by squeezing the puck through Hodson at 15:01.
Early in the third, the Aces jumped in front, when Julian Talbot chipped a loose puck up high for the 2-1 lead at 2:00.
Alaska expanded the margin to 3-1 at 11:26, when Ryan MacMurchy whacked one in after Hodson had made a spectacular diving stop.
Reagan Leslie gave Bakersfield life when he picked up a loose puck in his own zone, skated the other way, deked two Aces and beat Gustafson to pull Bakersfield within 3-2 at 17:47.
The Condors pulled Hodson for an extra skater late, but to no avail, as Gustafson kept them at bay.
Notes: Jay Langager was activated from the 3-day IR, David Kudelka was placed on the 3-day IR, both retroactive to Tuesday. Steven Gillen (7-day) and Todd Griffith (30-day) remain on injured reserve.
