Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors have agreed to terms with rookie defenseman Tyler Noye (NO-way) and left-winger Eric Sonnenberg (SAW-nin-burg) for the 2007-08 season, head coach Marty Raymond announced Thursday. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not announced.
Noye, who turns 24 on Aug. 19, spent the last three years playing collegiate hockey at St. Mary's University, located in Nova Scotia, Canada. Last season, he notched eight points (all assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 20 games. During his three-year tenure at St. Mary's, Noye recorded 29 points (8g, 21a) and 38 penalty minutes in 76 games.
"Tyler is an all-around quality defenseman and is coming in with good experience even though he's a rookie," Raymond said. "He came highly recommended and we're happy to have him as a member of the Bakersfield Condors."
The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pounder from Riverview, New Brunswick spent five seasons playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Three of those seasons (2000-01 through 2002-03) were with the Montreal Rockets, where Noye was teammates with current Condor Brett Lutes.
"I'm excited to come and play with such a great organization," Noye said. "Brett [Lutes] told me what a great place Bakersfield is and I'm looking forward to the opportunity."
Sonnenberg, 25, spent the last two seasons with the Wheeling Nailers, notching 60 points (24g, 36a) and 212 penalty minutes in 131 games. Last year, he netted 24 points (6g, 18a) and 91 penalty minutes in 61 games.
"Eric brings a big physical presence, and has that blue work collar ethic we're looking for," Raymond said. "He'll provide more grit down the middle, and has a scoring touch as well."
The 6-foot-3-inch, 195-pounder from Wetaskiwin, Alberta began his pro career in 2004-05 with the Texas Wildcatters, where he amassed 25 points (9g, 16a) and 86 penalty minutes in 45 games. That same season Sonnenberg played six games with the Central Hockey League's Laredo Bucks and one game with the American Hockey League's San Antonio Rampage.
"I was looking for a change and am fired up to come out west to a team that's had success, "Sonnenberg said. "I'm going to work hard, chip in where I can and just try to help the team."
With the addition of Noye and Sonnenberg, there are now 10 players inked for 2007-08, seven of whom are returnees from last season (Scott Balan, Sean Venedam, David Kudelka, Andrew Ianiero, Reagan Leslie, Brett Lutes and Jamie Hodson). Noye, Sonnenberg and Tamás Lencsés are the new players coming to Condorstown.
The Condors begin their 2007-08 10th Anniversary season Friday, Oct. 19. To view the full 2007-08 schedule, click here. For more information or to reserve season tickets, mini-plans and book group outings contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825).
