Kansas City Comets News Release

The Comets split a pair of tough road games over the weekend, and enter the week with a 2-4 overall mark. The club is in third place in the MISL's Central Division, one half-game behind the St. Louis Steamers (2-3) and three and one half-games behind the Milwaukee Wave (6-1).

On Friday night in Milwaukee, the Comets fell to the Wave 15-6 in the highest-scoring game of the 2003-04 MISL season. Kansas City trailed 6-0 after one, 8-2 at the half, and 13-5 at the end of three quarters in the loss. Greg Howes and Todd Dusosky both finished with five points apiece for the Wave. Jeff Davis (goal, assist), Vlatko Andonovski (goal, assist), and Miodrag Djerisilo (two goals) led the Comets with two points each. DJ Horvath allowed the first 12 goals of the game before being replaced by rookie Josh Schreck for the final 26 minutes of the game.

Kansas City rebounded in a big way on Saturday night with an 11-9 win over the Philadelphia KiXX at the Wachovia Spectrum. The KiXX took a 6-5 lead into the locker room after a fast and furious first half, but the Comets scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter to take an 8-6 lead into the fourth. The teams traded goals down the stretch and Kansas City wrapped up the victory with Jeff Davis' goal at 14:37 of the final stanza.

Josh Schreck, a produce of Bishop Miege High School and Benedictine College, made his first MISL start in goal and was occasionally outstanding, finishing with nine saves for his first win. Beasley scored three goals and Davis (goal, two assists) and Miodrag Djerisilo (two goals, assist) finished with three points apiece. The loss was Philadelphia's first at home this season, and snapped Kansas City's three-game losing streak.

ANDONOVSKI EARNS WEEKLY HONORS:

Comets backliner Vlatko Andonovski was named the MISL Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Andonovski stood out in Kansas City's 15-6 loss in Milwaukee, blocking four shots while scoring a goal and assisting on another. And the 27-year-old put up a key performance in the Comets' 11-9 upset win in Philadelphia on Saturday, blocking three shots.

Andonovski missed all but 11 games in 2002-03 due to a knee injury, and returned to Kansas City's lineup on November 9 in San Diego. He has scored two points and blocked eight shots in his first three games back from the injury.

The native of Skopje, Macedonia, becomes the second Comet to earn weekly honors this season, joining Brian Soell (Offensive, October 20).

ODDS AND ENDS:

- Comets rookies Sandre Naumoski and Paul Dolinsky both scored their first MISL points on Saturday in Philadelphia. Naumoski, a graduate of Southern Nazarene University, finished the game with two goals, one of which was assisted on by Dolinsky.

- Forward Anthony Maher was activated from the injured reserve list late Thursday and made his Comets debut on Friday night, going without a point. Maher, acquired from Cleveland over the offseason in exchange for Nick Corneli, scored a goal and assisted on another in Philadelphia.

- Jamar Beasley's hat trick against the KiXX was the third three-goal performance of the season by a Comets player. Dino Delevski and Brian Soell both scored three goals on October 18 against Monterrey.
