Kansas City Comets News Release
KANSAS CITY - The Kansas City Comets look to improve their impressive home record Sunday against the Rochester Lancers, 3:05 p.m. CST at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Comets (5-6) have won four of their five home matches this season, and a win over Rochester will be four in a row inside the friendly confines of Silverstein.
While the Comets are mired in the middle of the Eastern Conference standings and a playoff race, the Lancers (0-9) have yet to win a game this season. Their closest losses have been six-goal and four-goal defeats at the hands of the Harrisburg Heat. Rochester comes to Kansas City Saturday after having to play at Milwaukee Friday.
For the second-straight week, the Comets have contributed healthily to the MASL Team of the Week, with league-leading shot blocker Robert Palmer making the starting six and league-leading point scorer Leo Gibson making the bench alongside captain John Sosa.
Kansas City enters the game fresh off an overtime loss at defending champion Milwaukee, though they played that contest with six players lost to injury. The bench won't be as bare against Rochester, with most expected to return.
Listed as probable for Sunday is Kevin Ellis, named MASL Player of the Week after a five-goal performance against Orlando. He then scored twice in the comeback win over Milwaukee in Kansas City, but missed Monday's loss at Milwaukee thanks to Achilles Tendinitis.
In their three matches together this season, Gibson and Ellis have combined for an astonishing 13 goals and 10 assists. More time together could make that tandem the most explosive in the league.
Also joining the Comets late this season but making a big impact has been rookie goalkeeper Nicolau Neto. He's expected to earn his third-straight start against the Lancers.
