Kansas City Comets News Release
The Missouri Comets have signed another Midfielder to their star-studded roster. Fans may not recognize his face, but they will surely recognize the name. The Comets are excited to announce Tanner Hunjak (Hoon-yak), son of former Comet Goran Hunjak, has signed with the Comets for the 2011-2012 season. In his 19 year career the elder Hunjak was a seven time All-Star, scoring 500 goals and amassed over 1,000 points. "His dad was one of the greatest to ever suit up in the MISL," says Coach Roentved, "...and Tanner is built in the same mold. Plus he's so young; he could be a force in the league for many years to come."
Tanner is the youngest player in the MISL at the age of 18. His youth doesn't mean he is na=EFve about what he is about to get himself into. Tanner grew up watching his father 'Scorin' Goran Hunjak tear up the midfield in arenas across the country. Recently Tanner was a member of the KCFC Rangers 92/93 team coached by Gareth Hughes that competed in the 2011 National Championships in Phoenix.
"My dad was always there for me growing up. He never forced or influenced me towards soccer, but he was first in line to encourage me in every decision I made about the sport," Tanner talks about his following in his father's footsteps, "I just hope that my professional career can live up to the example he's set for me."
Official Airline Partner - The Comets have also announced Frontier Airlines as the Official Airline of the team. "We're thrilled to promote the Frontier Airlines brand in such a fun-filled, family environment," said Jim Reichart, vice president of marketing and sales for Frontier. "Our strong schedule of nonstop service out of Kansas City offers the Comets and their fans not only convenience, but also the lowest fares available."
The team will travel with the Frontier when flying to destinations serviced by the airline. Team President Brian Budzinski is happy with the partnership too. "we're excited to have the Comets travel with Frontier Airlines on our road games. Our players and staff are used to a high level of comfort and sophistication, Frontier Airlines provides both of these qualities in addition to many others."
