Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Wednesday that the Comcast Komets Hall of Fame will increase by four inductees in a ceremony to be held at the beginning of the 2007-08 Komet hockey season. The Hall of Fame currently boasts 33 members and is comprised of three sections including Executive Builders, Team Personnel and Media. The Class of 2007 Comcast Komets Hall of Fame inductees will include former Komet players Colin Chin, Steve Fletcher and Terry McDougall to be placed in the Team Personnel section. Fort Wayne's supervisor of minor officials Win Rood will be inducted into the Executive Builders section.
Colin Chin was a Komet center for ten consecutive seasons starting in 1986-87. A Fort Wayne native, Chin spent almost his entire pro career skating for the Komets in the International Hockey League with the exception of 78 games during his pro debut in 1985-86 with Baltimore of the American Hockey League. The center was a member of the 1992-93 Turner Cup Champion Komets and had a career year leading the Komets with 64 assists and 100 points in 1993-94. Chin announced his retirement at the conclusion of 1995-1996 and continues to reside in Fort Wayne.
Steve Fletcher was a fan favorite in Fort Wayne for seven IHL seasons. The winger started his pro career with Fort Wayne in 1982 after skating Juniors at Hull. Fletcher skated parts of eight seasons in the AHL before returning to Fort Wayne in 1990 to start six additional seasons becoming the Komet's all-time penalty minute leader with 1,752 penalty minutes. Fletcher also skated one game with the Komets during the 2002-03 UHL season before officially ending his career. Fletcher resides in Fort Wayne and is employed by Perfection Bakery. Chin's number 26 and Fletcher's 77 have both been retired by the Komets.
Terry McDougall's pro career spanned eleven years in the IHL. The center began his career skating two seasons with Des Moines from 1973-1975. He became an IHL Turner Cup champion with the Capitols in 1974 before joining the Komets for seven seasons from 1975-1982. McDougall led the IHL in 1978-79 with 57 goals and tied Komet's Hall-of-Famer Len Thornson for most points in a season with 139. He also set the Komet's record for most points in a playoffs season with 25. McDougall was honored with the Komet's MVP award for three seasons including 1975-76, 1976-77 and 1978-79. McDougall completed his career skating three seasons with the Flint Generals in the IHL from 1981-1984.
Win Rood began as an International Hockey League minor official working Fort Wayne Komets games in 1969-70 and continues in the current position as Fort Wayne's Supervisor of Off-Ice Officials (minor officials) overlooking a staff of approximately 20 of which 14 are needed to properly handle a game. He began as the "extra guy" to be called into service as a goal judge, penalty box attendant or any position needing filled for the Komets home game. During his 38-year reign as an off-ice official Rood has served in every capacity at least once including as a substitute P.A. announcer. Rood currently resides south of Fort Wayne in Pleasant Township with his wife Sarah.
