Combs Hat Trick Withers Storm; Spirit Win 4-1

(Guelph, ON) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Guelph Storm 4-1 Friday night. Spirit associate captain Jack Combs tallied a hat trick in the effort, logging all three Spirit goals. It is the first time this season that Saginaw has bested Guelph. The Spirit have 54 points and a record of 24-21-4-2.

Jack Combs would start the game off with a short handed goal at the 8:05 mark in the first period, assisted by defensemen Adam Comrie and Garrett Sinfield, then move the score to 2-0 with a goal at 3:47 in the second period. Center Ryan McDonough assisted on the goal. The Storm would answer in the second period, taking the score to 2-1 courtesy a goal from defenseman Corey Syvret. Center Rafael Rotter and winger Tyler Melancon assisted on the goal.

The third period would see the Spirit extend their lead by two goals. Combs earned the hat trick with a goal at 14:22 in the period, assisted by McDonough and defenseman T.J. Brodie. Tomas Zaborsky would notch an unassisted empty net goal at 19:31 in the third period, sealing the game 4-1.

Spirit netminder Ryan Daniels (OTT) turned away 37 shots in the win; Storm goalie Thomas McCollum tallied 26 saves

The Spirit return home to TheDow Event Center on Friday, January 15th, with a 7:11 PM game against the Plymouth Whalers. It's a Valentine's Day Celebration with a post-game couples skate. The Spirit host the Kitchener Rangers at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 17th, for a team poster give-a-way and team autograph session courtesy Meijer and HealthPlus of Michigan.
