Majors Drop to the Generals

Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release


Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors faced off with the Oshawa Generals on home ice this evening. Unfortunately, the Majors were defeated 3-1, and they were outshot 37-25 in the contest. As a result, their record moves to 25-26-1-1 on the season.

The 1st period saw the Generals jumpstart the scoring when Dale Mitchell connected at 8:58 (power-play), with support from Ryan McGinnis and John Tavares, to put the visitors up 1-0.

The Majors fell behind a little further in the 2nd period, as Mitchell wired another shot into the net at 2:27 to give the Generals a 2-0 lead. This time, the assists went to Michael Del Zotto and Brett Parnham.

Then, in the 3rd period, Parnham brought the score to 3-0 for Oshawa when he scored at 5:21 (power-play), off of passes from Del Zotto and Brett MacLean. However, Jordan Mayer grabbed a goal at 10:03 on the power-play, with the lone assist going to Blake Parlett, to put Mississauga on the board. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, as the Generals held on for the win.

Anthony Grieco got the start in net and made 34 saves for Mississauga while Michal Neuvirth blocked 24 shots for Oshawa. The Majors power-play was 1 for 6 while the Generals went 2 for 6. The game's three stars were Mitchell (1st), Grieco (2nd) and Del Zotto (3rd).

Mississauga goes on the road to battle the Niagara IceDogs this Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Then, they return home to host the Guelph Storm on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The Majors will be holding their inaugural "Paint the Rink Pink" event during the game to help raise awareness for breast cancer, and a portion of the night's proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
