Combined Pitching Effort Leads SwampBats to Victory

SANFORD - The SwampBats (6-1) took their first trip of the season up to Sanford, Maine to take on the Mainers (3-4) and came away with the 3-1 victory behind a solid combined pitching performance from the SwampBats pitchers.

The SwampBats used five pitchers and gave up just four hits, one earned run, and struck out 10.

Before any of the SwampBats pitchers could take the mound, the 'Bats put two on board in the top of the first on a Ryan Costello (Central Connecticut State) RBI single and a pass ball.

Kent State's Joey Murray got the start for the SwampBats and was dominant through the first three innings. Through three, he had thrown 47 pitches, 31 of them for strikes, struck out four and walked one on 10 batters faced, and he did not allow a hit. Murray came out for his warm tosses before the fourth inning and was pulled for an undisclosed reason.

Zach Hart (Franklin Pierce) came in relief of Murray and threw a perfect fourth inning with two strikeouts.

Dylan Sbordone out of Southern New Hampshire University took to the mound for the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Sbordone faced 15 batters, gave up one earned run on one hit, walked four, and struck out three.

For the second consecutive night, Boston College's Carmen Giampetruzzi and Castleton State's Michael LaBeau came in a closed out the game for the SwampBats. Giampetruzzi pitched 0.2 innings and got into a jam with runners on second and third but was able to get out of it. LaBeau got his second save of the season.

The SwampBats improve to a record of six wins and one loss and currently sit atop of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).

The 'Bats will make the trip to North Adams tomorrow when they take on the Steeplecats (5-3) at 6:30 p.m.The game can be heard live on the NECBL Broadcast Network and FM 104.1 AM 1220 ESPN Keene.
