Mystic Schooners News Release
DANBURY - The Mystic Schooners and the Danbury Westerners combined for four home runs and 24 runs at Rogers Park in Danbury Friday night.
Mystic did not get their first hit of the game until the fourth inning but they did score three times in the second thanks to three walks and three Schooner batters that were hit by pitches. With the bases loaded, Casey Baker drew a walk for the first run of the game, then Aaron Hill and Taishi Terashima were both hit to make the score 3-0 at the end of two innings.
The Westerners took the lead in the very next inning. They put two men on and some smart base running brang them both in to make it a one run game. After those runs scored, the next batter drew a walk to bring up Shawn Blake. Blake sent a no doubter over the left field fence to put the Westerners up 4-3 after three innings.
The offenses came through for both teams in the sixth inning. The Schooners started it off when Casey Baker drew a one out walk and CJ Moore doubled down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Aaron Hill followed that up with a single to bring in Baker to tie the game at four. The Schooners weren't done as Brett Bond walked to load the bases and soon after a wild pitch scored both Moore from third and Hill from second to put the Schooners on top. With Bond on third, Martin Figuroa hit a ball that was misplayed by the third basemen to score Bond. Figuroa would later steal second and Zach Goldstein would drive him in with a single to complete the five run inning and the Schooners took an 8-4 lead going into the home half of the sixth.
Danbury responded with a four run bottom of the sixth that was highlighted by a big three run home run by Jason Agresti to tie the game back up at eight at the end of six.
The Schooners answered right back with three more runs in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Aaron Hill doubled and Taishi Terashima singled him in. With Terashima still on first, Brett Bond sent his first home run of the season over the center field fence to make the score 11-8 at the end of seven.
The game was nowhere close to being over as Danbury scored five more times in the bottom of the eighth. After the leadoff man got on base, Shawn Blake went yard again with a two run shot for the fourth combined homer of the game. The Westerners would add three more runs and that would be enough to finally close out the Schooners as they went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth.
With the loss the Schooners fall to 3-5 on the season. They will be back in action on Saturday at Plymouth, first pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
