Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Des Moines Buccaneers assistant coach Riley Colvard is joining the collegiate coaching ranks as NCAA Division I Bentley University.

Colvard coached the Buccaneers alongside head coach Matt Curley last season, helping Des Moines return to the playoffs in the 2022-23 campaign. Colvard spent the past five seasons coaching in the United States Hockey League.

"Riley has put a tremendous amount of work in earning this well deserved position with Bentley University," said Curley.

"He was an outstanding representative of the Buccaneers and his efforts this past year have put us in a much better position today than when he started. I am proud of him and his accomplishments and look forward to seeing continue his coaching journey at Bentley."

Bentley University is located in Waltham, Mass. and competes in NCAA Division I men's hockey, in the Atlantic Hockey conference. Colvard will join the staff with first year head coach Andy Jones, and fellow assistant coach Tom Fiorentino.

Before joining the Bucs, Colvard was an assistant coach with the Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL for four seasons and won a Clark Cup championship in 2019. He also served as an assistant with the Minnesota Wilderness in the North American Hockey League from 2017-18.

Prior to his coaching career, Colvard, a native of Lino Lakes, MN, played hockey at Centennial High from 2009-2011. After high school, Colvard played in the NAHL with the Austin Bruins, and was named captain of the Bruins in the 2012-13 season. Colvard attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout and played hockey there from 2013-2017.

The Des Moines Buccaneers organization wishes Riley Colvard the best of luck moving forward in his career.

The full hockey operations staff for the 2023-24 Des Moines Buccaneers is in place and will be announced later this week.
