
Columbus Crew SC Sends Defender Axel Sjoberg on Loan

COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has loaned defender Axel Sjoberg to San Antonio FC of the United Soccer League Championship for the 2020 season. Crew SC retains the right to recall the player at any point during the Major League Soccer regular season.
"This decision was made with the intent of getting Axel valuable minutes," said Crew SC President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "It is important that he gets regular playing time and we thought this opportunity was something that would be beneficial for both Axel and San Antonio FC."
Sjoberg, 28, was signed by Crew SC on December 4, 2019. The defender's MLS experience includes playing for the Colorado Rapids from 2015-2019. During his time in Colorado, Sjoberg made 88 regular-season appearances (84 starts), registering three goals and one assist. San Antonio FC is led by Head Coach Alen Marcina and is set to open the 2020 USL Championship season against Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, March 7 at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas.
