Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that it has mutually agreed to part ways with defender Hernan Grana, granting the player's wish to return home to address family issues in Argentina. Following the transaction, the club's active roster currently stands at 26 players. Per club and MLS policy, additional terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"Moving to a new country without your young family is difficult for any professional. Hernan and the club have taken great strides to prevent these challenges from impacting his performance, but in the end we mutually agreed that the best option for all parties was for him to return to Argentina to be close to his family." said Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. "While we appreciate Hernan's on-field contributions to the club to start this season, we also understand that there are times when the personal welfare of the player takes priority."

Until joining Crew SC this offseason as a Discovery Signing, the defender spent his entire 12-year career playing for professional teams based in Argentina, including a number of topflight clubs such as Boca Juniors, Quilmes, Lanus and All Boys located near his hometown of Buenos Aires. Grana appeared seven times for Crew SC during which the club posted a record of 3-3-1.

On the heels of a 3-2 victory at MAPFRE Stadium over Seattle Sounders FC last weekend, Crew SC next plays on Saturday, May 16 at Avaya Stadium against the San Jose Earthquakes.

TRANSACTION: Columbus Crew SC mutually agrees to part ways with defender Hernan Grana on May 12, 2015.
