January 18, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew today announced that midfielder Aidan Morris has been called-up by the U.S. Men's National Team for its annual January training camp. The senior roster call-up for Morris is a first for the Crew Academy product. Morris is one of 13 players who are seeking their first full international cap, while five players lend veteran experience as they return from the USMNT's successful run at the 2022 World Cup.
The training camp will kick off Jan. 21 before the USMNT faces fellow 2022 World Cup participant Serbia on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles (10 p.m. ET; HBO Max, Universo, Peacock, Telemundo App) and South American power Colombia on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. (7:30 p.m. ET; TNT, Telemundo, Peacock, Telemundo App).
During this January camp, Morris is one of eight players who are age-eligible for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Morris was one of two guest players at the USMNT's fitness camp prior to the selection of the 2022 FIFA World Cup roster.
With the Crew, Morris enters his fourth professional season, having debuted in 2020 before becoming the youngest player in League history to start in an MLS Cup as the Black & Gold secured the title. Following a season-ending knee injury prior to the 2021 campaign, Morris returned in 2022, making 27 appearances (20 starts) and recording an assist. Overall, Morris has made 37 regular-season appearances and 22 starts in the Crew midfield.
USMNT assistant coach Anthony Hudson will lead the training camp while fellow World Cup assistant B.J. Callaghan and Under-20 Men's Youth National Team head coach Mikey Varas will serve as assistant coaches.
Crew players are currently in South Florida for the first trip of the preseason, where the Black & Gold will train in Port St. Lucie until Jan. 27. The Crew returns to Columbus and will train in-market from Jan. 28 - Feb. 5, before heading to Fort Lauderdale for the second trip of the preseason (Feb. 6-18).
The Black & Gold are set to open the 2023 MLS season on the road against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, Feb. 25 and host D.C. United for the home opener at Lower.com Field on Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
