Columbus Blue Jackets Assign Forward Brian Gibbons to Springfield

Springfield, Mass. - The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Brian Gibbons off Injured Reserve and assigned him to the Springfield Falcons, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Gibbons missed the last 23 games of the regular season with a knee injury suffered on December 18 against Washington.

Gibbons, 26, has registered five assists with six penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 21 games in his first season with the Blue Jackets. The Braintree, Massachusetts native has added 1-4-5 in seven contests with Springfield. Signed as a free agent in July 2014, he has collected 5-17-22 with 12 penalty minutes and a +7 plus/minus rating in 62 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Originally signed as a free agent by Pittsburgh on Apr. 4, 2011, Gibbons has collected 31-64-95 with 107 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 175 career AHL games with Springfield and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He won NCAA titles with Boston College in 2008 and 2010 while recording 56-108-164 and a +82 rating in 160 career collegiate games.
