San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas - The San Angelo Colts announced Wednesday they have traded designated hitter Kyle Nichols to the Kansas City T-Bones of the independent American Association in exchange for a player to be named later.

Nichols, 35, hit .260 with a league-best 10 home runs and 43 RBIs in 40 games with the Colts. He and second baseman Jon Dziomba are the only two players who started in every game through the first half of the season.

Nichols also pitched a scoreless inning on June 21 against the McAllen Thunder at Foster Field. He walked one batter and did not allow a hit in the top of the ninth that night.

Nichols joins the T-Bones in the middle of their four-game series against the Sioux Falls Canaries at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to play in Kansas City, and excited that their manager Kenny Hook thought enough of me to give me a shot to help his team get back in the playoff race," Nichols said. "It is bittersweet though, because I have had a great time in San Angelo. It's going to be tough leaving Doc and my teammates, but this is an opportunity I've been waiting on since last year."

Nichols leaves the Colts with plenty of fond memories, but the one he knows will stick with him the longest is his walk-off home run on June 13 against the Thunder.

"When I hit the walk-off homer on that Thirsty Thursday it was close to one o'clock in the morning," he said. "Once I got to home plate I was doused with water, and all my teammates were there to celebrate the win. It was a lot of fun, and it was a great moment."

Now in his 13th professional season, Nichols heads to Kansas City with a .270 career batting average, 176 home runs, 771 RBIs, and 1,102 hits in 1,109 games.
