Colts Sweep Doubleheader against Wings

San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts swept the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in their doubleheader Tuesday night at Foster Field. San Angelo won game one, 6-4, and then took game two, 5-1.
San Angelo used two three-run innings to beat the WhiteWings in game one. The Colts scored three runs in the second, and then three more in the sixth.
Centerfielder Matt Wright hit a two-RBI double, and then scored on an RBI double by shortstop Danny Hernandez to give the Colts a 3-0 lead. It was Wright's first at-bat for the Colts after getting traded from the Frontier League.
Wright, Hernandez, and first baseman Steve Rinaudo all scored in the sixth to give San Angelo a commanding 6-0 lead.
WhiteWings' starter A.J. Smouse (4-2) gave up all six runs, and took the loss. Only three of the runs were earned.
The WhiteWings rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh, but it was too little too late. Colts' starter Demetrius Banks (4-0) earned the win. He allowed two runs on five hits in six-plus innings of work. Reliever Cephas Howard finished the seventh inning, and collected his third save of the year.
In game two, Colts' starter Derek Christensen earned a complete-game victory. Christensen (4-1) allowed a run on six hits and struck out a game-high seven batters. It was his fourth win in a row.
The WhiteWings took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but San Angelo first baseman Steve Rinaudo crushed a leadoff homer in the fourth to tie the game. It was Rinaudo's fourth home run of the year.
The Colts then pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning. Wright, catcher Tyler Wagner, and second baseman Jon Dziomba all had RBI singles to help lead the Colts to victory.
WhiteWings' starter Drew Coffey (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on as many hits in four-plus innings.
The wins improve San Angelo to 22-18, while the losses drop the WhiteWings to 19-21. The Colts have Wednesday off, and then they begin a four-game series against the Fort Worth Cats at LaGrave Field on Thursday, July 4.
First pitch is set for 5:45 p.m., and the game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 5:30 p.m.
