San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- Starting pitcher Derek Christensen (3-1) pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings, and guided the San Angelo Colts to a 2-0 victory against the McAllen Thunder Friday night at Foster Field.

Christensen scattered four hits and recorded a game-high four strikeouts. The righty also retired 10 batters in a row from the first all the way into the fourth inning. Christensen has now won back-to-back starts.

The Colts got on the scoreboard in the third inning. Centerfielder Oscar Garcia hit a one-out double, and then scored on a throwing error by Thunder pitcher Brett Miller. Miller's pickoff throw to third sailed over third baseman Andy White's glove, and Garcia advanced two bases to give San Angelo a 1-0 lead.

The Colts doubled their lead in the sixth. First baseman Steve Rinaudo hit a leadoff double, and scored on an RBI single by second baseman Jon Dziomba. Third baseman Ryan Hutson followed with a base hit to put runners on first and second with nobody out. However, the Thunder then turned a triple play to get out of the inning.

It was the first triple play in a Colts game this season.

Miller (1-2) gave up just two runs in eight innings, but he took the loss for McAllen. Both of Miller's losses are against San Angelo.

The Colts' bullpen completed the shutout for Christensen. B.J. Hyatt struck out the final batter in the eighth inning, and then Cephas Howard pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his second save.

The Colts have now won three in a row, and they are 20-15. McAllen, meanwhile, is a league-worst 13-22. The Thunder are on a four-game losing streak.

This series concludes Saturday at Foster Field with Tote Bag Giveaway Night. The first 1,000 fans through the front gates will receive a free, re-useable tote bag, courtesy of the Colts. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
