San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas--- 18 hits and 16 runs drove the San Angelo Colts (43-23) to their second win in as many nights over the Amarillo Dillas (36-29). Colts starter Brian Henschel earned his league leading tenth win of the season as the Colts won game two of the four game series atop the Dillas 16-5.
The Colts offensive eruption began in the second inning. A solo shot to left-center by Bryan Frichter(7) began the inning. San Angelo then pushed the bases full, an RBI single from Travis Calloway, and a sacrifice fly by Ronnie Gaines added another two runs. 3-0, Colts were on top after two complete innings.
Two errors by the Colts defense including a hit by Eric Brown and a sacrifice fly by Stantrel Smith gave the Dillas their first runs of the contest. San Angelo led 3-2 after 2 ½ innings of play.
The four runs added in the bottom half of the third inning came solely off the bat of Nick Mahin. A grand slam by the Colts first baseman, his fifth homer of the year, expanded the lead to a comfortable 7-2 advantage.
The offensive outburst continued in the fourth inning. With two runners in scoring position, Rich Paz connected on a double to left-center for his first RBI's as a Colt. Ronnie Gaines and Hunter Jobes crossed home plate for the eighth and ninth run in the game. The onslaught persisted, Selwyn Langaigne singled and Jason Landreth doubled, driving home Paz and Frichter. San Angelo reached double digits holding an11-2 lead. A sacrifice fly by Butch Ballez plated Langaigne, a five-run outburst handed to the Colts a ten-run lead.
In the seventh inning, in a 12-3 game, the Colts tacked on another crooked number. The inning began with a hit-by-pitch and three walks. After a run had scored, Langaigne doubled to score Jobes and Paz. A sacrifice fly by Landreth capped off the inning for a total of four runs, the 16 run performance is the highest run production of the season.
The Dillas added another two runs in the eighth inning, but the deficit was far too large as the Colts nabbed game two, 16-5.
Brian Henschel (10-3) became the first ULB pitcher this season to reach double digits in wins. The right hander completed eight innings, scattering four hits, allowing four earned runs, while striking out seven batters. Chace Vacek pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Jessie Rodriguez (2-2) received the loss.
