San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas - The San Angelo Colts got the season started on the wrong foot Thursday with a 7-2 Opening Night loss to Amarillo in front of 4,001 fans in a rematch of last season's ULB Championship Series.

The Colts pushed across the first run of the game in the first inning on a double by designated hitter Jason Landreth, which scored Ronnie Gaines all the way from first to give the Colts a 1-0 lead.

From that point on it was all Amarillo. The Dillas got things started with a three-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from leftfielder TJ Warren. The Dillas would add to their lead with three runs in the seventh, two of which came on a homerun by third baseman Adam De La Garza (1), to make the score 6-1. The Dillas would add another run in the eighth before the Colts would plate a run in the ninth on a Dilla throwing error. Both Colts runs were unearned.

Ronald Lowe (1-0) got the win for Amarillo going six innings, allowing three hits, an unearned run, two walks and eight strikeouts as Dilla pitching struck out 11 batters. Ezequiel Astacio suffered the loss for San Angelo despite a solid outing going six innings and allowing three earned runs on eight hits to go along with eight strikeouts.

De La Garza led the Amarillo attack with four RBI by going 1-3 with a SAC fly and RBI groundout to go along with his two-run homer. Josh Collazzo led the Colts offensively by going 4-4 with two doubles and two singles. He had four of the five Colt hits.

The Colts will close out their two-game series against Amarillo tomorrow with right-hander Brian Henschel (11-3, 2.29 ERA-2009) toeing the rubber against Dilla righty Zachary Cole (0-0, 7.13 ERA-2009). Following the game, there will be a fireworks extravaganza sponsored by 1st Community FCU. The game is set for 7:05 and can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the pregame show getting things underway at 6:50.
