San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg, Texas --- Led by a brilliant pitching performance from starter Mark Willinsky, the Colts defeated the Edinburg Roadrunners, 3-2, Friday night at Edinburg Stadium.
Willinsky (8-5) gave up both runs on five hits, and struck out seven batters in as many innings pitched for the win. He has now won four of his last five starts.
The Colts took an early 2-0 lead, as centerfielder J.J. Sherrill scored the game's first run and then drove in the next one on an RBI double. First baseman Daryl Jones plated Sherrill with an RBI single.
Edinburg scored a pair of runs to even the game at two entering the fifth inning, but San Angelo responded immediately. In the top of the fifth, second baseman Mark Ramos reached base on an error and then scored on an RBI single by left fielder Cory Patton.
Roadrunners' starter Aaron Tullo (4-4) took the loss, giving up three runs, one earned, on five hits in eight innings. Tullo also struck out a game-high 11 batters.
Ramos's run proved to be the game-winner for the Colts. Edinburg was held scoreless the rest of the game by Willinsky and closer Erik Draxton. Draxton pitched a scoreless ninth for his league-best 20th save.
The win improves San Angelo to 40-40, while the loss drops Edinburg to 48-32. San Angelo returns home on Saturday to play the Abilene Prairie Dogs. It will be the Vegas Fan Fly Away, sponsored by Midland International Airport. One fan will win two tickets to Las Vegas, courtesy of Midland International Airport.
Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
