Colts down five, win by six over Dillas 12-6

SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo Colts came back in a big way after trailing 6-1 to the Amarillo Dillas, scored 11 unanswered runs to give the Dillas their first loss 12-6 on Friday night at Foster Field.

Dillas pitcher Chris Nyman (0-1) got the loss as he gave up nine runs in three runs in relief of starter Zachary Cole. Colts reliever Matt Chutchian (1-0) was the victor as he allowed no hits in two-and-a-third innings.

With one out in the second, the Dillas started the scoring. After back-to-back singles by Matt Ceriani and Stephen Douglas, TJ Warren singled through the infield which scored Ceriani, while an overthrow sent the runners to second and third. After a Cory Wine walk loaded the bases, Adam DeLaGarza hit a fielder's choice that scored Douglas for a 2-0 Amarillo lead.

San Angelo scored their first runs in the second as Adam Hale hit a one-out solo homerun to pull the score within one. Joaquin Rodriguez led off by reaching on an error, and scored on a Carlos Figueroa RBI single. Following a one-out single by Ceriani, Warren shot a two-out single past the second baseman that scored Figueroa. Wine followed with a wall-scraping double that scored Ceriani and Warren for a 6-1 Dillas lead.

The Colts got back on the board in the fourth as Josh Collazo singled and scored on an RBI double by Trey Carter. Following an error which sent Collazo to third, Butch Ballez flew out to center but scored the runner for a 6-3 score.

After Cole left between innings, the Colts loaded the bases in the sixth with no outs off rookie pitcher Nyman. A fielder's choice and an error scored two runs, but a line drive and a strikeout ended the inning with the Dillas remaining in the lead 6-5.

The Colts came back in the seventh as Ronnie Gaines singled followed by a Jason Landreth double to put runners on second and third with no outs. Following a strikeout and an intentional walk, Carter hit a 2-1 pitch over the wall for a grand slam and a 9-6 Colts lead.

The Colts added another three more runs in the eighth off Nyman, pushing the lead to six at 12-6. The Dillas could not come back from the deficit and fell in the second game of the series.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 1-1, while the Colts improve to 1-1. Saturday, Amarillo will begin their opening home series against San Angelo for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout. The first 1,000 fans to the Dilla Villa for the game will receive a Dillas magnet schedule sponsored by Cosselman Mechanical.
