San Angelo Colts News Release

Amarillo, Texas---A seven spot in the fifth inning propelled the Amarillo Dillas (40-31) to a 15-8 stomping of the San Angelo Colts (45-27). Richard Jessup (6-5) delivered seven innings and squandered eight runs but earned the victory. Jacob Ramos (3-1) tossed 3.1 innings and allowed eight runs in taking the loss.

The offensive onslaught initiated in the first. San Angelo's Hunter Jobes singled with one out. After Rich Paz reached on an error by shortstop, Willie James, Bryan Frichter lined a run scoring single to center. The road team jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

Amarillo's offense galvanized in the bottom of the frame; a leadoff walk and stolen base by Keanon Simon led to a Stantrel Smith RBI single up the middle. Carlos Figueroa also delivered a base knock before third baseman, Frichter, turned a double play on Terrance McClain. With Figueroa advancing to second, Angel Reyes crushed his second home run with the Dillas. The two-run blast gave the home team a 3-1 advantage.

The Dillas continued it's assault on Colt pitching. Once two outs were recorded, Simon took his base on a walk and swiped second. Smith drilled a ground-rule double down the left field line, plating Simon. Figueroa was hit by a pitch and McClain rifled a double past the glove of Frichter. Smith tapped home while runners occupied second and third. Both Figueroa and McClain raced home on a single by Reyes. San Angelo trailed 7-1 after two frames.

There was a resiliency shown by the Colts during the top of the third. Paz walked, Frichter singled and Selwyn Langaigne received a base knock setting up Jason Landreth. The designated hitter belted a bases clearing triple to bring the road team within three. John Anderson drove Landreth in with a ground ball to shortstop. Amarillo still remained on top, but the score was 7-5.

San Angelo continued to struggle against a potent Amarillo line-up. In the bottom of the fourth, Terrance McClain grounded an RBI single through the right side scoring the speedy Stantrel Smith. The Dillas lead stood at three runs.

San Angelo's game of catch-up progressed in the top of the fifth. Butch Ballez's line drive single to right-center drove home Jason Landreth, the Dillas lead returned to two runs.

Amarillo finished off the Colts as the run production reached double digits in the bottom of the fifth. It began with a two-run double by Keanon Simon. A triple to right field by Stantrel Smith scored Simon. The lead grew even further after an RBI groundout from Carlos Figueroa which brought in Smith. A 12-6 Dillas lead expanded when Trent Lockwood singled to center and Terrance McClain raced home. As the home team batted around, Willie James second hit of the inning drove in two more runs. A tumultuous fifth inning handed the Colts a nine-run deficit.

In the seventh, the Colts offense persisted. Landreth was plunked by a pitch and John Anderson belted his first homer of the season, a two-run blast to right-center. San Angelo, however, dug too large of a hole in the fifth and could not escape it.

All in all, the Colts split their set of eight games with the Amarillo Dillas. San Angelo travels to Edinburg to begin a four game set tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7:05 P.M. The Kemps Ice Cream Pre-Game show will start at 6:50. Colts baseball can be hear on KCLL COOL 100.1 FM
