San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - In arguably the biggest inning of the season, the San Angelo Colts busted out their best frame of the year, as the Colts broke open a 6-6 game with a nine-run, 13-batter inning, taking a 15-6 lead en route to a 21-8 demolition of the Edinburg Coyotes before a Father's Day crowd of 1,440 at Foster Field.
Right after Edinburg (12-19) scored four times in the top of the sixth off starter Frank James and reliever Taylor Fleming (3-1) to tie the game and threaten to hand the Colts (17-15) their fourth straight loss, San Angelo busted out the bats against three Coyotes pitchers in the bottom of the sixth. Bryan Frichter started the inning with a bloop single to right. After Andres Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, Jason Crosland hit an RBI double, and then Aaron Cone singled through the drawn-in infield.
That chased starter Toro Trevino (0-2), and the Colts did not warmly welcome Aaron Guerra, who had been very good against San Angelo in the past. Jose Torres and Wyn Diggs singled, then Charley Belew hit a bases-loaded triple to right and scored on the play as well because of a throwing error by Gary Roche. It wasn't over there, as Andres Rodriguez doubled three batters later to bring home John Anderson and Frichter. All told, the nine runs, nine hits, and 13 batters each set single-inning season highs for the Colts.
The scoring wasn't over there though, as San Angelo scored another five runs in the seventh on a pair of homers, the second of the season from Diggs (a two-run shot), and the seventh from Rodriguez (three-run blast).
Eight of the nine Colts batters had at least one hit, and eight scored at least two runs. Frichter was 5-for-6, while Rodriguez had five RBIs and Cone had four hits and four RBIs.
The win ensured that the Colts will still be in second place in the ULB standings Monday, heading into the finale of this nine-game homestand with a 4-4 record.
Notes: Guerra had allowed two runs in 29 innings in his career to San Angelo, before being touched for five in just one-third of an inning today...Tyrone Pendergrass and Andres Rodriguez each extended their streaks of reaching base to 29 consecutive games. They came into play today tied with Danny Bravo of Amarillo and Ryan Fox of Harlingen for the longest ULB streak. Torres is right behind them at 26...The 21 runs shattered the previous season high of 15, while the 21 hits were one short of the Colts best mark.
The Colts conclude their nine-game homestand with the rubber match of their series with the Coyotes at 7:05 p.m. Monday Night. It will be the second Sure-Win Monday sponsored by Sherwin Williams. There will also be a blood drive put on by Universal Blood Services before the game, with all donors earning a free ticket to the game. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
