San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts announced Sunday they have acquired outfielders Joseph Hicks, Justin Reed, and Cody Hudson, and released designated hitter Nathan Ramler.

Hicks, 29, was traded from the McAllen Thunder and he made his Colts' debut Saturday night. Hicks went 1-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in San Angelo's 13-1 win over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.

Hicks hit .305 with three home runs and 31 RBIs in 44 games with the Thunder. He is now batting .302 with three homers and 32 RBIs in 45 games on the year.

A ninth-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2002, Hicks reached as far as the Short-Season A Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League. Now in his ninth professional season, Hicks has a career .261 batting average, 24 home runs, and 175 RBIs in 327 games.

Reed, 25, is in his sixth pro season, and first in independent ball. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Cincinnatti Reds in 2006. Reed spent five years in the Reds farm system, reaching as high as the A-Advanced Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League in 2010. Reed is a career .228 hitter with 22 home runs and 117 RBIs in 396 games.

Hudson is a 22-year-old rookie out of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. The switch hitter batted .363 with three homers and 40 RBIs in 62 games for Austin Peay this spring. Hudson's .363 average was the second-highest on the team. He also led the Governors with 32 steals in 40 attempts.

Ramler hit .087 with an RBI in just five games for the Colts. The 23-year-old rookie was traded to San Angelo from the Kansas City T-Bones of the independent American Association in exchange for veteran slugger Kyle Nichols.

The Colts are in the midst of a 12-game home stand. The home stand runs from Tuesday, July 9 through Saturday, July 20, and in that time the Colt face the Fort Worth Cats, Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, and Edinburg Roadrunners. After this home stand, the Colts begin an eight-game road trip against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and the Edinburg Roadrunners. The Colts then return home for their last 12-game home stand of the regular season on Tuesday, July 30.
