RICARDO PEREZ SCORES GAME WINNER IN COME-FROM-BEHIND VICTORY: On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Colorado Rapids Under-18 boys team earned a 3-2 victory over Andromeda FC of Houston, Texas thanks to an 89th minute game-winner from Ricardo Perez. After going down 2-0 in the first 10 minutes, David Pardo and Isaac Martinez each scored before halftime even the score, and Perez's third goal of the season put the Rapids ahead for the come-from-behind win. The U-18 squad next faces Houston Dynamo this Saturday, Oct. 27 and Texans SC Houston on Sunday, both at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
RAPIDS U-16 BOYS BLANK ANDROMEDA FC 2-0: The Colorado Rapids Under-16 boys blanked Andromeda FC 2-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, Oct. 20, moving them to first in the Frontier division with a 5-1-0 record and 15 points. Victor Rolph scored his first goal of the season for the Rapids, while Gustavo Montes added his team leading fourth (tied with Jovanni Chavez). This weekend the team will play twice, facing Houston Dynamo on Oct. 27 and Texans SC Houston on Oct 28 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
RAPIDS ACADEMY AND YOUTH SOCCER CLUB HOSTS BOYS TRYOUTS THIS SUNDAY: The Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club will host tryouts for their U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 boys teams this Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Lowry Sports Complex. The U-15 tryouts will begin at 4 p.m., the U-16 tryouts at 5:15 p.m. and the U-17/18 tryouts at 6:30 p.m. MT. For more information or to register, click here.
SERNA ASSISTS GAME WINNER TO KEEP AKRON WIN STREAK ALIVE: Rapids Academy midfielder Dillon Serna assisted his sixth goal of the season on Oct. 20 to give the #2 University of Akron their second goal in a 2-1 victory over West Virginia. Serna also started in Akron's 1-0 victory over Ohio State, extending their unbeaten streak to 10 games (nine wins), and a perfect 5-0-0 record in Mid-American Conference play. ABOUT THE U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY: The U.S Soccer Development Academy is a nationwide youth development initiative, organized by the U.S. Soccer Federation, featuring 78 of the top youth teams in the country competing in a league system at both the U-18 and U-16 levels. The 78 youth programs, including one U.S. Youth National Team in each age group, are divided into 10 geographically based divisions, each of which will send a single qualifier to the national finals after the regular season concludes in late June.
