
Colorado Rapids Sign Jasper Löffelsend to New Contract

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids have signed midfielder Jasper Löffelsend to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 MLS season, with an option for the 2026 season, the club announced today.
"We are absolutely delighted to sign Jasper to a new deal and keep him here in Burgundy," said Rapids President Pádraig Smith. "Jasper brings notable assets to the team with his athleticism and ability to cover extensive ground. His versatility not only enriches our depth but also amplifies the competition within the squad."
Löffelsend, 26, made his Rapids debut on March 9, 2024, registering 71 minutes in the club's road victory over Real Salt Lake, his former club. The versatile midfielder joined the Rapids in January following two seasons with the Utah side after being drafted by them in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. Löffelsend initially signed a deal with the Real Monarchs, on Feb. 22, 2022. Just five days later, he signed with the first team, making his league debut on Feb. 27, 2022. He concluded his rookie campaign with five assists, complimented by his first career goal on July 30, 2022, against San Jose. During his tenure there, he delivered seven assists and scored a pair of goals in 51 regular-season appearances and showcased versatility by playing several positions for them, including outside back and defensive midfielder.
Before turning professional, the Köln, Germany, native attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he recorded two goals and 18 assists in 36 appearances. In his junior and senior years, he received accolades as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and was named a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, along with earning selection to the All-ACC First Team on two occasions.
Additionally, between 2016 and 2020, Löffelsend had spells with TV Herkenrath 09 (Germany), SV Straelen (Germany), Bonner SC (Germany), FC Hennef 05 (Germany), and FC Wegberg-Beeck (Germany), competing in both the Regionalliga West and Mittelrheinliga. In total, he registered 65 appearances across all competitions in Germany.
