Colorado Rapids 2 Extend Midfielder Daouda Amadou's Contract Through 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Season

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - ‚ The Colorado Rapids have signed midfielder Daouda Amadou to a two-year contract through 2025, with a club option for up to three additional years, the club announced today. ‚

The first guaranteed year of Amadou's contract will be with Colorado's MLS NEXT Pro side, Rapids 2. The second guaranteed year of the contract will be with the First Team.

"Daouda played a crucial role in Rapids 2's success last season," said Brian Crookham, Rapids 2 General Manager. ‚ "His continued presence with the second team ensures valuable playing time for him and provides the club with additional time to assess his strengths."

Amadou, 21, spent two seasons with Colorado's MLS NEXT Pro side in 2022 and 2023. A member of the inaugural Rapids 2 squad, Amadou added three assists in his 15 appearances during the team's first season. In the team's most recent season, Amadou added one goal and two assists in 23 matches while helping Rapids 2 to a spot in the Western Conference Final. Highlighting the 2023 season was the midfielder's short-term call up to the Colorado Rapids' MLS side for their match against FC Cincinnati on May 27.

Prior to joining the Rapids organization, the Cameroonian spent one season with MFK Vyskov where he made four appearances during the 2021-22 Czech National Football League season.

At the youth international level, Amadou has spent time with the Cameroon Men's National Team's U-20 and U-17 sides. The midfielder made four appearances for Cameroon in the 2020 UNIFFAC U-20 tournament and two appearances during the 2019 U-17 World Cup in the team's matches against Tajikistan and Spain. In addition, Amadou logged five appearances with the Cameroon U-17 Men's National Team in their run to the 2019 African Cup of Nations title. The midfielder notably claimed Man of the Match honors for his performance in the final.
