Colorado Crush News Release
Fort Collins, CO - The Colorado Ice (9-5) are doing everything necessary to prepare for their Saturday, June 22nd IFL playoff game with the Nebraska Danger (10-4) in Grand Island, Nebraska; playing for the rights to the Intense Conference Championship and a trip to the IFL Championship.
The Ice are coming off of a solid 58-43 victory over the Wyoming Cavalry and for the season the Ice sweeps the Cavalry for a second year. Michael Stover and Conrad Obi (DL) earned Co-Defensive player of the week honors, flexing the Ice's defensive muscle at a crucial time. For the game, Stover registered 6 tackles (3 for loss) and 2 sacks, while Obi tallied 7 tackles (3 for loss), 2 sacks, and a pass break up. The Ice will look for another breakout game from their D-line against the Danger this weekend.
Ice Quarterback Willie Copeland looks to carry his regular season success into the playoffs. Copeland finished the 2013 season 5th in QB Rating (101.0), 3rd in passing yards (2247), and 2nd in passing touchdowns (48). Running Back Dennis Kennedy has been a big contributor to the Ice offense, rushing for 264 yards and 9 touchdowns in 4 games this season.
The Nebraska Danger finished their regular season with a thriller, defeating the Tri-Cities Fever 69-64 on Saturday night. The Danger come into the game with a 10-4 record, tied for best in the league, and seeking a win in the franchises first ever playoff appearance. The match up features Nebraska's #1 ranked offense against Colorado's #3 ranked defense, adding pressure for the Ice defense to perform. Nebraska Quarterback Jameel Sewell has been a breakout performer in the league this season, finishing 3rd in QB Rating (109.9), 1st in passing yards (2531), 1st in passing touchdowns (52), 1st in rushing yards (654), and first in rushing touchdowns (25).
"We have to find a way to contain their Offense. It starts with their two First Team All-League receivers (Farquharson and Andre Piper-Jordan)" stated Ice Coach Heron O'Neal. "Can we slow down Sewell from making big plays, not only in the air but with his running ability? We have to score early and often and play great special teams."
