Colorado, Calgary Playoff Game Not for the Faint of Heart
May 7, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - A typical National Lacrosse League game is comprised of four 15-minute quarters. A typical Colorado Mammoth-Calgary Roughnecks game includes a sudden-victory overtime period as well. The arch-rivals face off in the West Division Semifinal pres. by Honey Smoked Fish Co. this Sat., May 9 at 7pm on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center.
"It's nice to be playing at home," said Mammoth coach Dan Stroup. "Hopefully it will energize the boys!"
The team's last four postseason meetings have been in Calgary - all Roughnecks wins.
"You can't really look at the past...we can only look forward," said Mammoth assistant captain Dan Coates. "We're expecting a great game, we're confident within our locker room, it feels like a family, and we're looking forward to competing."
The series itself has been as balanced as can be, with seven of the teams' last 11 meetings (including playoffs) going to OT. Colorado is 5-2 in the overtime games, and won both of its extra-frame contests against Calgary this season. Seven of the Mammoth's last eight overtime games overall have been against the Roughnecks.
"I couldn't be happier to play these guys," said Mammoth assistant captain Cam Holding. "We've lost to Calgary in the playoffs the last two seasons. It's our turn to get them back and get a win in our home building."
The last three visits by the Roughnecks to The Loudest House in Lacrosse have all been overtime wins by the Mammoth.
Saturday's winner will advance to the West Division Final to take on the Edmonton Rush. Tickets to Mammoth-Roughnecks are on sale now at ColoradoMammoth.com. But heed this warning. The game is not for the faint of heart!
