Colonials Hold On, Beat Brockton 8-7

The Pittsfield Colonials beat the Brockton Rox 8-7 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Massachusetts on Wednesday evening.

Colonials' starter David Qualben (3-4) went six innings in the win, allowing four runs on seven hits while fanning eight. Reliever Juan Padilla (2) earned his second save of the season with recording the final four outs to close the ball game.

Pittsfield right fielder Dan Carte (3-for-4, 2 RBI) enjoyed a three hit game, knocking in the eventual winning run with a single in the ninth inning. Second baseman Danny Bomback (2-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI) doubled, tripled, and knocked in a pair of runs for the Colonials, while center fielder Quentin Davis (2-for-4, RBI) picked-up a pair of hits, RBI, and stolen base for the winners.

Rox starting pitcher Mike Wlodarczyk (6-3) took the loss over seven innings in the start, allowing six runs, (three earned) on nine hits. Reliever Joshua Papelbon was hit for two runs in two innings out of the bullpen.

Brockton second baseman Derek Kinzler (2-for-4, 2 RBI) batted in a pair of RBIs for home team, while third baseman Jeff Hanson (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) notched his first professional hit, adding a double and RBI in the game for Brockton.

The Colonials travel home to Wahconah Park in Pittsfield and will begin a seven game home-stand tomorrow, starting with a four game series against the Worcester Tornadoes. Right-hander Kyle Zaleski (6-1) is schedule to take the ball in game one for the Colonials at 7:05pm.
