Pittsfield Colonials News Release

The Pittsfield Colonials saw the Rockland Boulders score eight runs over the final four innings, falling to Rockland 10-2 on Monday afternoon.

Rockland scored the first two runs of the game on a two-run homer by Sean Smith in the top half of the first inning. The Colonials got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning when Danny Bomback was hit by a pitch and stole second. Angel Molina grounded a ball to the left side, which rolled up the arm of Boulders' third baseman Ryan Mollica for an error, allowing Bomback to score.

Pittsfield tied the game in the second when Johnny Welch led off with a triple. Two batters later, Scott Knazek hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Welch and knot the game at 2-2.

At that point both pitchers took over. For the Colonials, Pat Moran at one point retired 13 batters in a row from the first through fifth innings. Matching him pitch for pitch was Rockland starter Casey Hodges who did not allow a run after the second inning.

The Boulders broke through in the sixth against Moran. With one run already in, Smith cranked his second two-run bomb of the game out to leftfield, giving Rockland a 5-2 lead. The Boulders would put the game away with a five-run eighth inning.

Hodges (1-0) got the win tossing eight innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. Moran took the loss despite striking out eight and walking none in 5.2 innings of work.

Game three of the series comes up on Monday with Chad Paronto (0-1, 7.50) taking the hill for Pittsfield against Bobby Blevins for Rockland. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. with the pregame show on 89.7 WTBR set to kick off at 6:40.
