Colonials Beat Jackals in Barn-Burner, 10-8

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials moved into a tie for fourth place in the Can-Am League standings with a 10-8 win over the New Jersey Jackals at Wahconah Park on Tuesday night.

Pittsfield banged out 16 hits in the game including solo home runs by centerfielder Quentin Davis (2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI), his third homer of the season, and third baseman Jason Taylor (3-for-4, 2B, HR, RBI), the game winner in the seventh inning. Second baseman Danny Bomback (2-for-4, 3 RBI) drove in three runs for Pittsfield while teammates Jerod Edmondson (3-for-4, 3 R, SB) and Matt Nandin (3-for-5, R) each tallied three hits to aid the offense. Right fielder Dan Carte (1-for-5, RBI) extended his league leading hitting streak to 27 consecutive games with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning.

The Colonials used seven pitchers in the game to combine for the win; starting pitcher Miguel Flores took the no-decision in four innings of work, allowing five runs on nine hits, no walks, and four strike-outs. Reliever Giuseppe Granitto (1-1) earned the victory with one and two-thirds innings of work, allowing one run on one hit. Closer Raymond Cruz (3) picked-up his third save in five days, second in consecutive nights, with a one-two-three ninth inning.

Jackals' starting pitcher Dan Griffin also factored in a no-decision with five innings of work, giving-up five runs on ten hits. Edgar Estanga (0-3) suffered the loss with two innings out of the Jackals' bullpen.

New Jersey designated hitter Shawn Riggans (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) had three hits and two RBIs in the game. Shortstop Mike DeJesus (2-for-3, 2 RBI) knocked in a pair for the visitors while second baseman Abraham Nunez (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) and left fielder Jacob Butler (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) each collected RBI doubles.

The Colonials enjoy a day off Wednesday before visiting the Sussex Skyhawks at 7:05pm on Thursday night when they send Righty Trevor Marcotte to the mound for the start.
