Brockton, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials drubbed the Brockton Rox 8-1 at Campanelli Stadium on Thursday night to even the best-of-five game series at 1-1 as it now shifts to Wahconah Park in Pittsfield for the final three games, if necessary.
Colonials starting pitcher David Qualben (1-0) delivered seven shut-out innings in the start for the win, allowing just three singles while walking one batter and striking-out five. Colonials Reliever Jonny Venters was the lone man to pitch out of the bullpen, allowing one run on a Shaun Williams (1-for-4, HR) solo home run in the eighth inning.
Pittsfield smacked 15 hits in the win, including four solo homers from Jason Taylor (2-for-5, HR), Dan Carte (1-for-5, HR), Jerod Edmondson (1-for-5, HR), and Rafael Cabreja (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI).
Rox starting pitcher Mike Wlodarczyk (0-1) lasted three and one-third innings in the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits. Pittsfield scored three unearned runs in the seventh against reliever Francisco Ortiz.
The Colonials will look to take the series lead at Wahconah Park on Friday night at 6:05pm when right-hander Kyle Zaleski (8-6) takes on Brockton's Freddy Flores (10-2).
