Pittsfield 8, Brockton 1

Pittsfield pounded out 15 hits and four solo home runs against Brockton to take Game 2 of their best-of-five series 8-1. Colonials starting pitcher David Qualben shutout the Rox for 7.1 innings before giving way to Jon Venters, who surrendered an eighth-inning solo homer to Shawn Williams for Brockton's lone run. Qualben allowed just three singles and a walk while striking out five to earn the victory. Pittsfield got out to an early 5-0 lead through four innings on their four homers from Jerod Edmondson, Daniel Carte, Jason Taylor, and Rafael Cabreja, as well as a third-inning sacrifice fly off the bat of Danny Bomback. They later capitalized on sloppy Brockton defense to plate three unearned runs in the seventh off reliever Francisco Ortiz. Rox starter Mike Wlodarczyk yielded five runs on eight hits in just 3.1 innings of work in the loss. The two teams meet again in Pittsfield Friday night for Game 3 at 6:00 PM EST. Pittsfield's Kyle Zaleski will toe the rubber against Brockton's Freddy Flores with the series tied at one apiece.

Quebec 7, New Jersey 4

With Quebec up 7-0 in the seventh, New Jersey's Kevin Clark connected for a grand slam to quickly tighten the ballgame, but the Capitales hung on to take Game 1 of their best-of-five series 7-4. Capitales starting pitcher Troy Cate shutout the Jackals for 6.1 innings before giving way to James Kukucka, who quickly ran into trouble by loading the bases on a single and two walks before Clark's shot. Matthew Rusch earned the save for Quebec, holding the Jackals to just a two-out single in the ninth and striking out a pair of batters in two innings of work. Quebec got to Jackals starter A.J. Wideman for six earned runs on nine hits over four-plus innings of work. Goefrey Tomlinson doubled in Quebec's first run and scored its second on a sacrifice fly in the third, and added a two-run single in the fourth. Sebastien Boucher capped the Capitales scoring with a two-run home run in the fifth to pad the lead to 7-0. The two teams play Game 2 in Quebec Friday at 7:05 PM EST. Michel Simard will take the ball for Quebec while the Jackals turn to Pitcher of the Week Jayson Miller.
