Collard Greens Clinch Series with the Win

The Collard Greens pulled off another combined shutout tonight for their second in the series. That is credit to Josh Stephan, Jackson Leath, and Dylan MacLean. They also combined for 11 strikeouts while only giving up five hits.

All of the runs tonight for the Collard Greens came in one inning which was the bottom of the fifth. There were four consecutive walks which was able to bring in the first run of the ball game. Bases were loaded when Daniel Mateo came up to bat and he kept up his clutch play with a single that scored Xavier Valentin and Derwin Barreto. After that, Maximo Acosta reached first on an error and was able to bring in Ian Moller. Finally, Abimelec Ortiz drives in two more runs to finish a long and exhausting inning for the Carolina Mudcats. The Woodies go on to win six to zero and clinch the series.

The Collard Greens (34-33) and Carolina Mudcats (34-33) continue their series tomorrow, on Saturday, June 25th, with the Collard Greens leading the series (4-0), as the first pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. in Kinston, NC at Grainger Stadium.
