Alabama Steeldogs News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- A familiar face has been assigned to the Birmingham Steeldogs this week as another has been placed on injured reserve.

Percy Coleman, 5'8" 184 lbs., will play WR/DB for the Steeldogs. Coleman prepped at Vestavia Hills before moving onto UAB, where he played both the wide receiver and running back positions. While at UAB, Coleman rushed 56 times for 380 yards and one touchdown while also catching 77 passes for 615 yards and two touchdowns. In his senior season with the Blazers, he ranked second on the team in all-purpose yardage with 665.

This will be Coleman's first game with the Steeldogs, despite being on the team's training camp roster for the past two years.

The Steeldogs also announced that WR/DB Gary Reed will be out for the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL in last week's game at Tennessee Valley. Reed, who played college football at Samford University, was the Steeldogs fifth-leading receiver. In 11 games this season, Reed caught 16 passes for 161 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Reed collected 18 tackles and recorded five pass break-ups. The Steeldogs hit the road for the their next two games, starting this weekend with a trip to Little Rock to take on the Arkansas Twisters. Both the Steeldogs, 6-6, and the Twisters, 7-5, are locked in a heated battle for the three wildcard spots in each respective conference.
