Carolina Cobras News Release
RALEIGH, N.C. (July 19, 2002)- The Carolina Cobras host the San Jose SaberCats in the 2002 regular season finale on Sunday, July 21, 2:00 p.m. (ET) at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.
Carolina (6-7) has won two straight games following a season-high five-game losing streak and is coming off a 52-31 win over the Buffalo Destroyers last week. The Cobras have also reached the 50-point mark in consecutive games after achieving the feat only one other time this season (during Week Two). On the other side of the ledger, San Jose (12-1) comes into the game as the No. 1 seed in the 2002 playoffs, but had their dream of an undefeated season snapped last week during a 59-52 loss at Arizona. During the game, the SaberCats lost starting QB Mark Grieb to a shoulder injury, which will knock him out of action for the remainder of the season. San Jose has scored 50 or more points 19 consecutive games and are leading the league in scoring average (63.1 ppg). This will be the first-ever regular season meeting between the two teams. The Cobras are 1-5 (.167) at home in 2002 and 8-12 (.400) at the ESA all-time.
Sunday's game against San Jose can be heard live in the Raleigh-Durham area on WRBZ 850 The Buzz Sports Radio with Gary Hahn and Tony Haynes on the call.
