Coaches from the USA Baseball staff as well as representatives from Elon University's baseball program will team up to offer instruction in drills, practice management, motivation, and game stategy. The clinic is being sponsored NCSTEP, an anti-spit tobacco education group.
The Coaches Clinic will begin at 1:30 PM, with registration and a free lunch, followed by approximately two hours of instruction. Coaching tools for a variety of age groups will be offered, and coaches of all levels, from T-ball to high school and college are welcome. In addition to lunch, coaches attending the clinic will receive two free tickets for the USA vs. Taiwan game that night.
At the conclusion of the Coaches Clinic at 4:00 PM, a special short instruction session will be offered for kids aged 5-16, with autographs from members of Team USA also available for the participant. Youth participants would also receive a free ticket to that night's game.
NCSTEP Executive Director Paul Turner will make a presentation to both the coaches and the youth participants regarding the dangers of spit tobacco. "The Minor Leagues and college baseball banned spit tobacco years ago," said Turner, "and we want to help young people and their coaches understand that smokeless does not mean harmless."
Tickets are currently on sale through the Burlington Indians ticket office as part of the full 37-game season ticket package or the 6-game mini-season ticket. Individual game tickets, including tickets for this game, will be made available for sale in the spring. For more information, please call (336) 222-0223 or log on to www.burlingtonindians.net.
