CN creates CN Bruno Heppell youth leadership award and names him honorary police officer

MONTREAL, July 8, 2005 - CN today announced the creation of the CN Bruno Heppell Youth Leadership Award. The company is also proud to name Bruno Heppell honorary CN police officer for his involvement in the CN Adopt an Alouette program, which was set up in 1998 to reduce the school dropout rate and promote railroad safety in Quebec. "Bruno has made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of railroad safety in Quebec. Over the past six years, Bruno has visited close to 300 schools as part of the CN Adopt an Alouette program, and prevention is a very important aspect of the work done by our police officers," said CN Po-lice chief Serge Meloche. During these school visits, an Alouettes player talks to pupils about a topic chosen by representatives of the school. The topic has to be something use-ful to students, such as personal relations, conflict management, time man-agement or career planning. A question and discussion period usually fol-lows the presentation. Beginning in winter 2006, two $500 bursaries will be awarded to a pupil at a French- and English-language school that hosted a visit from Alouettes play-ers involved with the program. Pupils must have a good attendance record and be very active in their community.
