Cloud Burst, Poor Drainage Dooms Game
June 19, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -- Despite the fact that the sun was shining, Thursday night's scheduled Southern League game between the Huntsville Stars and the Greenville Braves was postponed due to unplayable outfield conditions. The rains came about an hour before the scheduled first pitch and lasted about 45 minutes. That was enough to call it a day at 20 year-old Municipal Stadium.
The Stars and Braves will resume their four game series Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:15. In game one, right hander Adam Wainwright (5-3; 2.88) will pitch for the G-Braves and the Stars will counter with left hander Luis Martinez (6-4; 2.33). Game two will feature a pair of right handers in Pedro Liriano (5-7; 2.48) for Huntsville and Matt Belisle (4-6; 3.63) for Greenville.
Game Notes
The first 1,000 fans will receive Chipper Jones bobble head dolls and there will be a huge fireworks show after the game sponsored by Verizon Wireless, WSSL 100 FM, The Greenville Journal, and Charter Communications.
