Florence Native Willingham to Play at Joe Davis Stadium

Huntsville, AL – Josh Willingham, a native of Florence, Alabama, and former University of North Alabama standout, visits Joe Davis Stadium as a member of the Carolina Mudcats from Sunday, June 22, through Tuesday, June 24. The first-half champion in the Southern League East, Carolina makes its only stop in Huntsville this season.

Willingham, a catcher, has played five games for the Mudcats since begin called up in the first week of June from Advanced-A Jupiter. Willingham has started his Double-A career with a bang, going 8-for-16 with a double, triple, three homeruns and nine runs batted in. Willingham is batting .500, slugging 1.250 and has an on-base percentage of .619.

Before his promotion from the Florida State League, Willingham hit .264 with 17 doubles, 12 homers and 34 runs batted in over 59 games for the Hammerheads. Willingham was a 17th-round choice of the Florida Marlins in the 2000 June draft.

The Stars have two fun promotions planned while the Mudcats are in town. Sunday, June 22nd, the zany mascot Birdzerk makes an appearance at the Joe. Fun for all ages, Birdzerk will entertain fans throughout the evening. Game time is 6:05 p.m.

Monday, June 23rd, is Homer's Birthday and Mascot Mania. All your favorite local mascots will be on hand to help celebrate Homer the Polecat's Birthday. The theme for the night is Harry Potter, and all kids dressed as Harry Potter get free general admission. There will also be special Harry Potter prizes given away throughout the night courtesy of Barnes and Noble Booksellers. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
