Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls Pheasants starting pitcher Mitchell Clegg has signed to return for the 2013 season, manager Steve Shirley announced on Friday.

The 26-year-old southpaw led the Birds in 2012 with a 9-6 record and posted a 4.99 ERA. Clegg displayed impressive durability. With 10 of his 20 outings being quality starts, he logged more innings than any other hurler on the staff (124 1/3 IP) and did not miss a start. Clegg finished the year strong, going 4-1 in August, including a complete game victory and a 3.83 ERA.

Clegg joined the Pheasants following three seasons with the Washington Nationals organization, who selected him in the 2009 draft out of the University of Massachusetts. He is a native of Woburn, Mass. He has a lifetime mark of 24-21 with a 4.18 ERA and 194 strikeouts.

The Sioux Falls Pheasants begin their 21st season on May 16, 2013. Their home opener is May 17 against the Sioux City Explorers. Information about season tickets and advertising with the Sioux Falls Pheasants is available by calling (605) 336-6060 or visiting www.sfpheasants.com.
