Cleaves leads way to third straight win

Bakersfield, CA Feb. 15 - The Bakersfield Jam kept its win streak alive as they beat the Colorado 14ers Thursday night in Bakersfield by a score of 102 - 86 before a crowd of 1,011. Bakersfield was led by newcomer Mateen Cleaves who had 22 points and 9 assists.

Both teams fought hard Thursday night, as neither team could gain control of the game. However, a terrific fourth quarter by Bakersfield sealed their third straight victory. The Jam outscored Colorado by 14 in the final period as they went on to win by 16.

"The key to tonight's win was that we played excellent defense," said Jam coach Jim Harrick. "Our big guys really stepped up tonight." Coach Harrick also stated, "Mateen Cleaves is fitting into our team very well, as his dominating performance tonight showed."

"We trust each other on the court, we are playing like a real team," said Mateen Cleaves. "Everyone is fulfilling their role on this team. As long as we keep doing that, we have a good chance at making the playoffs."

Thursday's victory improved Bakersfield's record to 10 - 22. Scooter McFadgon was the leading scorer for the Jam, as he tallied 23 points. Bakersfield's All-Star Kevin Pinkney contributed 13 points and 7 rebounds in the victory.

The 14ers were led by Von Wafer who posted 25 points. Elton Brown added 19 points and 6 rebounds.

The Jam and 14ers will face off again Wednesday March 21st in Broomfield.
