CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers rallied for four runs over their last three innings on Wednesday night, but were handed their first extra-inning loss of the season in falling 6-5 to Fort Myers on Clearwater City Centennial Night at Bright House Field.

JP Crawford reached base four times for Clearwater, while Victor Arano turned in a solid five innings in the series-opening loss.

The Threshers (22-23) trailed 4-1 entering the eighth, but rallied for two runs with two outs.

With Andrew Knapp at third, Aaron Brown sent an opposite-field double to left to plate Knapp, and Angelo Mora followed by lining a single to left to plate Brown and pull the Threshers to within one.

Chase Harris started off the last of the ninth by blooping a single off reliever Todd Van Steensel (1-2), but was caught stealing for the first out. Crawford then worked his way aboard with a walk, and Andrew Pullin pushed the tying run to scoring position with a base on balls of his own.

On a two-strike pitch, Knapp shot a two-bagger into the left field corner to bring home Crawford with the tying run, knotting the teams up at four. Clearwater would load the bases when Dylan Cozens was intentionally walked, but Van Steensel struck out Willians Astudillo after an eight-pitch battle, and got Brown to ground out to first to end the inning.

Ulises Joaquin (2-1) retired the first five men he faced on the evening, but Fort Myers (23-22) used three ground balls to build a rally with two down in the tenth.

Alex Swim reached on an infield hit to the right side, and Chad Christenson sent a slow grounder to second for a single as well. Mora attempted an off-balance throw to first and fired wide of Astudillo for an error, permitting both runners to move into scoring position.

Niko Goodrum gave the Miracle the lead on a chopper that snuck through the right side, scoring both Swim and Christenson.

The Threshers threatened in the bottom half when Mora singled and advanced all the way to third when the Miracle committed two errors on the play. Chase Harris dropped down a safety squeeze to score Mora, but pitcher Alex Muren made a barehanded stop toward the third base line and fired a quick strike to first to get Harris for the second out.

Crawford finished the day 2-for-4, with two singles and two walks. Clearwater pounded out 13 hits, but left 12 men on base.

Victor Arano did not earn a decision but turned in five innings of two-run ball in the start. He permitted just two hits, walked three, and struck out three.

The Threshers will host Fort Myers for a doubleheader on Thirsty Thursday and Ladies Night, presented by Tijuana Flats. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 5 p.m., as Mark Leiter, Jr. (3-0) takes the hill against Ryan Eades (3-1). David Whitehead (2-6) is set to make the start in game two, opposed by Brett Lee (1-2).

The call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network beginning at 4:45 p.m.
